The Design-a-thon: A Quest to Build a Foundation

The Design-a-thon (or how YouthTurns found its mojo)

On July 24, 2010 over 30 volunteers participated in a 24-hour design session with the purpose of crafting a suite of marketing tools for the Nashville-based non-profit YouthTurns.

YouthTurns serves families of prisoners to help mentor and educate youth so that they don’t end up on the same path to prison as their parents.

The volunteers created a new logo, brochure, letterhead, marketing strategy, 5-minute Ignite presentation, video package, a handbook for prison families, social media connections and a new Website. The event was dubbed “Southern Fried Design-a-Thon” and was held at the Colab Nashville co-working facility.

A case study was also created to share the process of organizing these volunteers to create crucial marketing and online foundations for a more-than-worthy cause. The study focuses on what went right and what could have been done better. This study will be shared with anyone interested in hosting such an event in the future. Please contact us if you are interested in learning more about our case study and event.

We want to say a HUGE thank you to all of the volunteers and sponsors that made this possible. There is no way that we can express our sincere gratitude.
